The Kerala Story: Day One Box Office Collection Shatters Expectations

The Kerala Story

The Kerala Story Box Office Collection will surprise you. The much-awaited controversial film “The Kerala Story” has been released across India after winning legal battles. While Supreme Court declined to intervene, Kerala High Court dismissed the pleas stating that the film talks about terrorism and not against one particular community. Interestingly, The Kashmir Files which was also released in 2022 got rave reviews among film lovers.

It looks like the claim of Adah Sharma has proven to be correct. The initial controversy in Kerala surrounding the film has helped The Kerala Story to get adequate mileage. Both the ruling Left front and Congress was opposing the release of the film stating it’s a propaganda film created by BJP.

The Kerala Government was not keen to ban the film since it’s not viable for a film with Censor Board certification. It’s to be noted that Censor Board has asked the makers to cut 10 scenes including an interview with former Kerala Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan.

According to estimates, the Adah Sharma starer film has amassed INR 7.50 crore to INR 8 crore on Day 1. The figures are expected to increase during the weekend. Kerala High Court heard a series of petitions and concluded that film talks about terror and not about any religion. Moreover, the makers of the film told the court that there is a disclaimer stating that the film is purely fictional. The film talks about three girls who convert and then migrate to join the terror organization. They faced several hardships and Adah Sharma clearly gives her best performance.

If the Day 1 estimates are true, then The Kerala Story has become the 5th highest opener of 2023. It’s a dull year for Bollywood since only two films Pathaan and Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar were found to be successful.

The Kerala Story is set to emerge as the 5th highest box office opener after adding Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, TJMM, and Bholaa. Interestingly, the Kerala Story has beaten Akshay Kumar’s Selfiee and Kartik Aaryan’s Shehzada. However, The Kerala Story doesn’t perform well in Kerala and Tamil Nadu because of the protests by various groups. The film opened in only one theatre in Thiruvananthapuram. However, BJP organized special shows for fans and film lovers.

The interesting fact is that Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded The Kerala Story because it talks about terror during an election rally in Karnataka. He added that Congress only does appeasement politics. Meanwhile, G Suresh Kumar, father of Actress Keerthy Suresh watched the film and said that it’s a great creation. He urged young girls to watch the film since The Kerala Story only talks about the aftermath of joining a terror organization.

Alencier Le Lopez

At the 53rd Kerala State Film Awards ceremony, actor Alencier Le Lopez received the Special Jury Award for his performance in the film Appan. In his acceptance speech made before Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan, he made a number of controversial remarks about the award statuette, which is a stylized figure of a woman.

Alencier said that he was insulted by the statuette and that he expected an award statuette with a male figure. He also said that the female figure was “luring” him and that he was planning to head home after taking the award because the statuette was too heavy.

Alencier also criticized the prize money for the Special Jury Award, which is Rs. 25,000. He said that it was an insult to give him such a small amount of money, and that he deserved more. He also said that he was requesting Gautam Ghosh, the head of the jury, to look into the matter.

Alencier’s remarks have been met with widespread criticism. Many people have accused him of sexism and misogyny. Some have also said that his remarks were disrespectful to the women who have won the award in the past.

Speaking to media on Friday, Alencier refused to apologize for his remarks and said he had said nothing wrong. He also slammed Indira Gandhi for imposing Emergency. Alencier’s remarks are in line with a long history of sexism and misogyny in the Malayalam film industry.
