Mohanlal is having rough times in the recent past. In 2022, all his films failed to make a mark at the box office. Interestingly, three of his films were produced by Mohanlal’s own Aashirvad Cinemas. The much-anticipated Alone, which was released in January 2023 also failed miserably. Mohanlal played a lonely character locked up inside a house during the COVID-19 lockdown period. Mohanlal has now come up with a treat on the backdrop of Vishu. The first look poster of his upcoming period film Malaikottai Vaaliban will release on April 14 at 5 PM IST.
Mohanlal took to Twitter and revealed that the first look poster of the film will drop at 5 PM IST. He also asked his fans to get ready for a sneak peek into the world Lijo Jose Pellissery has created. Malaikottai Vaaliban is Mohanlal’s second-period film in the recent past after Kayamkulam Kochunni which was released in 2015.

Malaikottai Vaaliban has been directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, who recently released Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam starring Mammooty. Even though Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam created a storm initially during the International Film Festival of Kerala in Thiruvananthapuram, the film failed badly at the box office.
Malaikottai Vaaliban has been produced by politician Shibu Baby John under his own production house John & Mary Creative. Mohanlal and Lijo Jose Pellissery are also adding money to the film. The film will also be produced by Century Films, Maxlab Cinemas and Entertainments, and Amen Movie Monastery. Mohanlal reportedly revamped Century Films, which was popular during the 90s. The film will be distributed by Century Films. The script for the Malaikottai Vaaliban has been penned by PS Rafeeque.
In addition to Mohanlal, Malaikottai Vaaliban also features Sonalee Kulkarni, Hareesh Peradi, Danish Sait, Manikandan R. Achari, Hariprashanth Varma, Katha Nandi, Andrea Ravera, Manoj Moses, Suchithra Nair, and Rajeev Pillai. The first phase of filming was completed in Rajasthan’s Pokhran with a span of 77 days. The second schedule will start at Sree Gokulam Film Studios in Chennai in May with a span of 40 days.
Malaikottai Vaaliban will be screened during IFFK 2023 in Thiruvananthapuram followed by worldwide theatre release. The film will also be made available on the OTT platform. There are chances that the film will directly hit OTT but there is no confirmation.

Alencier’s Remarks on Kerala State Film Award Statuette Spark Gender Row

At the 53rd Kerala State Film Awards ceremony, actor Alencier Le Lopez received the Special Jury Award for his performance in the film Appan. In his acceptance speech made before Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan, he made a number of controversial remarks about the award statuette, which is a stylized figure of a woman.
Alencier said that he was insulted by the statuette and that he expected an award statuette with a male figure. He also said that the female figure was “luring” him and that he was planning to head home after taking the award because the statuette was too heavy.
Alencier also criticized the prize money for the Special Jury Award, which is Rs. 25,000. He said that it was an insult to give him such a small amount of money, and that he deserved more. He also said that he was requesting Gautam Ghosh, the head of the jury, to look into the matter.
Alencier’s remarks have been met with widespread criticism. Many people have accused him of sexism and misogyny. Some have also said that his remarks were disrespectful to the women who have won the award in the past.
Speaking to media on Friday, Alencier refused to apologize for his remarks and said he had said nothing wrong. He also slammed Indira Gandhi for imposing Emergency. Alencier’s remarks are in line with a long history of sexism and misogyny in the Malayalam film industry. The Kerala State Film Awards have been criticized in the past for their lack of gender parity. Alencier’s remarks are a reminder of the need for greater awareness of gender issues in the Malayalam film industry.
